Dr. Ashwani Maichand has over 30 years of experience in orthopaedics, with a strong focus on joint problems, minimally invasive surgery, and complex bone and joint care. He started his medical career in 1987 at Government Medical College, Rohtak, and completed his post graduation in Orthopaedics from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. To further strengthen his skills, he completed his MCh in Orthopaedics in 2009 from the American Institute of Medicine.
After his MS, Dr. Maichand trained and worked with leading experts in joint replacement, arthroscopy, and spine surgery in India and abroad. He has completed fellowship training in Joint Replacement in the USA and Germany and is also a Visiting Surgeon at HELIOS ENDO-Klinik, Hamburg, Germany. Over the years, he has been associated with well known hospitals in Delhi such as Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, BLK Superspeciality Hospital, Apollo Spectra Hospital, and Fortis Hospital.
So far, Dr. Maichand has performed more than 6,000 hip replacement surgeries and over 6,000 knee replacement surgeries. He has also treated more than 2,000 patients with the Meniscus Replacement Procedure (MRP), helping many patients avoid early knee replacement. In addition, he has performed thousands of endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgeries.
Currently, Dr. Ashwani Maichand is the Director of Orthopaedics at CK Birla Hospital, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi, and Senior Consultant and Director at Minomax Orthopaedics. His areas of expertise include robotic and minimally invasive hip and knee replacement, meniscus replacement procedure (MRP), arthroscopic sports injury surgery, endoscopic and minimally invasive spine surgery, paediatric orthopaedics, deformity correction, limb lengthening, limb salvage surgery, and complex trauma care.
Dr. Maichand strongly believes in using Meniscus Replacement Procedure (MRP) to improve patients’ quality of life and delay or avoid early total knee replacement whenever possible. Instead of recommending knee replacement as the first option, he guides patients through treatment choices based on their age, activity level, and long term mobility needs. Patients who undergo MRP often recover faster, experience more natural knee movement, and feel more confident while walking, climbing stairs, or performing daily activities. This approach is especially helpful for younger patients, active individuals, and athletes who want to maintain an active lifestyle.
Dr. Maichand has also developed advanced minimally invasive hip replacement techniques suited to Indian and Asian patients. These techniques help patients comfortably return to daily activities such as sitting cross legged, using Indian toilets, and performing religious practices, which can be difficult after traditional hip replacement surgery.
He is supported by a skilled and dedicated team of geriatric anaesthesiologists, trained surgical staff, rehabilitation experts, and nursing professionals. Together, they provide complete care, from the first consultation to surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery.
